Meet Lauren, Fellow since 2003.

I teach in a non-traditional environment: a hospital. I work intimately with students suffering from chronic illnesses, and my role is to help normalize their experience, provide something positive and challenging on which to focus, and offer a measure of hope for the future.  My belief that all children can succeed inspires my approach to take an active interest in each child’s infinite potential.  Indeed, I have observed spirits soar when my students are engaged in a new reading passage, or a smile spread across the face when I enter the room for an individualized bedside visit.  Moreover, my classroom sessions allow students to socialize with their peers in the context of a collective learning experience.

I thank the NYC Teaching Fellows program for allowing me to experience daily the joy of teaching.
